Yn y ddarlith hon, bydd Wulf yn adfyfyrio ar ddau ddegawd o ymchwil alcohol a chyffuriau - o ddulliau cynnar, a diniwed yn aml, i ddatblygu arfer methodolegol cyfredol. Bydd Wulf yn rhannu adegau personol a phroffesiynol sydd wedi llywio ei ffordd o feddwl: y pleserau does neb yn siarad amdanynt, naratifau sy’n pegynu trosedd ac iechyd, ymyleiddio parhaus profiad bywyd, ac oferedd rhwystredig llawer o bolisïau cyfredol. Wedi’i fframio gan straeon, pobl a chyhoeddiadau hollbwysig, mae hon yn feirniadaeth ac yn galw am weithredu.
Mae’r Athro Wulf Livingston yn weithiwr cymdeithasol cofrestredig ac yn llais arweiniol mewn gwaith ymchwil pellach ar alcohol a chyffuriau. Mae ei waith yn archwilio croestoriadedd polisi, darpariaeth gwasanaeth a phrofiad bywyd, gyda ffocws ar ddulliau ansoddol, cyfranogol a gwerthusol.
Mae’n dysgu ar draws graddau PhD, Meistr a rhaglenni ôl gymhwyso. Mae Wulf yn cadeirio Canolfan Alcohol a Chyffuriau Eraill Cymru ac yn ddiweddar bu’n gyd-olygydd Practice: Social Work in Action ac mae’n cadeirio Grŵp Diddordeb Arbennig Cymdeithas Brydeinig Gweithwyr Cymdeithasol ar Alcohol a Chyffuriau Eraill. Mae Wulf yn parhau i fod yn weithgar iawn yn yr elfennau ymarferol, gan gefnogi Cymuned Adfer Gogledd Cymru.
In this lecture, Wulf will reflect on two decades of alcohol and drug research – from early, often naïve approaches, to the development of current methodological practice. Along the way, Wulf will share personal and professional moments that have shaped his thinking: the pleasures no one talks about, the polarised narratives of crime and health, the persistent marginalisation of lived experience, and the frustrating futility of much current policy. Framed through stories, people, and pivotal publications, this is both a critique and a call to action.
Professor Wulf Livingston is a registered social worker and a leading voice in alcohol and other drug research. His work explores the intersection of policy, service provision, and lived experience, with a focus on qualitative, participatory, and evaluative methods.
He teaches across PhD, Masters, and post-qualifying programmes. Wulf chairs the Welsh Centre for Alcohol and Other Drugs, and he has recently been co-editor of Practice: Social Work in Action and chairs the British Association of Social Workers’ Special Interest Group on Alcohol and Other Drugs. Wulf remains closely involved in practice, supporting the North Wales Recovery Community.
